Book Review: Spring Snow, Yukio Mishima.

Spring SnowSpring Snow by Yukio Mishima
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

First of all, I got interested in Yukio Mishima after *wrongly* knowing that he committed suicide on the same day after his finishing his last novel, which was not true at all! haha.

He died the same year though.. Shortly after completing the Tetralogy of “Sea of Fertility”.

At first, this novel seemed to me like it’s a little off and slow in picking up pace, but then I noticed that the writer’s way was a bit of a descriptive and unhurried way into details and beautiful expressions, SERIOUSLY beautiful expressions. I read literature in english, not like this, maybe because it was originally Japanese and the richness of the nature and society made the imagination a bit more beautiful..

"To me, she’s the essence of beauty. And it’s only that which has brought me this far."
"His own heart seemed to him to be much like an arrow of shipped of the flashing white feathers that gave it direction."
"And since there was nothing even remotely encouraging about this situation, he bagan to construct a hope of his own."
And phrases and expressions like these, make the somehow slow turn of events worth waiting for while you’re reading.

And I have to say that the last 50 or so pages were all page-turners of very fine caliber.. If you want to escape modern literature with its very simple expressive language, this is for you!

"But very often a man’s whole life alters course because of a moment’s hesitation. That instant is like a fold made down the middle of a sheet of paper. In it, the underside becomes upmost, and what was once visible is hidden forever."

الشك بناء، الشكوك هي الموصلة للحقائق، من لم يشك لم ينظر ولم يبصر ومن لم يبصر بات في العمى والضلال.

Doubt is a process of construction. Doubts are the leads to The Truth. He who did not doubt did not look and see, and he who did not see stayed in the blindness and delusion.

Book Review: Slaughterhouse-Five

Slaughterhouse-FiveSlaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Maybe I spent so much time reading I kinda was lost in the story, but I felt good every time I read some of it..
Witty, smart, and very paradoxical in its situations. Vonnegut tells stories like no other, great in his own ways!

And most importantly, FULL of humanity and humanism.. Yes I’d recommend that, and I might read it again too..

"Not I, nor anyone else can travel that road for you.
You must travel it by yourself.
It is not far. It is within reach.
Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know.
Perhaps it is everywhere - on water and land."

Book Review: The Time Keeper, Mitch Albom

The Time KeeperThe Time Keeper by Mitch Albom
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Hmmm.. Another Mitch Albom.. This time, a bit more futuristic and a bit more Sci-fi..

Great novel nonetheless.. Simple and can be finished with easily.. I like how it goes from one story to the other and connects in a very good way.. And once it connects, it gets a lot more interesting..

Has a great moral value into it.. Loved the message of appreciation of time and life as a gift to be given and lived fully. We all tend to get caught up in life as we go into our daily grind.. This tells you to look a bit more into its details and stories..

More like a 3.5 to me.. :)
